the mountain area, more than a hundred years ago, the Monteagle Assembly was founded as the Chautauqua of the
South and continues each summer as families return to spend
the season in their fascinating Victorian cottages. Our
elementary school in Monteagle is second to none. Life
moves along at an easy pace here and many people maintain
second homes in the Monteagle and Beersheba Springs
environs.

Sewanee, the home of The University of the South, is a world
renowned liberal arts school offering Bachelor's degrees in
arts and sciences, as well as master's and doctoral degrees
in the school of Theology. The University has a strong
literary heritage. Sewanee is home of the Sewanee Summer
Music Festival. The University campus is 10,000 acres and
the buildings and grounds have the appearance of a beautiful
English village.

Going East and north from Monteagle to Tracy City with its
pristine mountain lakes, coke ovens and coal mining
heritage, then onto Coalmont and Palmer, towns steeped in
coal mining history, and further onto Altamont, the
quintessential rural town located along the brow of the
mountain, and finally to Gruetli-Laager, a quaint,
historical Swiss settlement, you could stay for a lifetime
and not see everything that abounds here. |

We have more than 12,000 acres of state park on the mountain
with marvelous trails, waterfalls, overlooks and swimming
holes. This is a wonderful place to live and we would love
